I searched over the web for sabudana recipes..found many but I liked this one the best..I made these vadas for Shivaratri and they came out pretty tasty. So sharing the recipe with everyone.
Ingredients
1/2 cup sabudana soaked for 2 hrs and then drained
1 medium or 2 small potato
1/4th cup rice flour
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 cup chopped coriandar leaves or curry leaves
1/4th cup chopped onion
2 chopped green chillies
Oil for deep frying
Method
1. Grate the potato and squeeze out the juice. Keep it in a bowl.
2. Add the soaked and drained sabudana, salt, chilli powder, coriandar leaves,onion green chillie, and rice flour. Mix it well so that it becomes stiff dough.
3. Take a small piece of the dough and make a round ball and then flatten it on your palm.
4. Deep fry the pattis till golden brown. Serve hot with peanut chutney or any spicy chutney.

This another version of murrukku made with rice flour and roasted chana dal. Vamu or aijwain adds a wonderful flavor to it and also its good for digestion. My son is teething so he likes to munch on this snack…

Murukku with roasted chana dal
Ingredients
3 cups rice flour
1 cup roasted chana dal powder
1/2 tsp aijwain or vamu
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
salt to taste
3 tbs ghee
1 cup of water
Murukku maker
Oil for deep frying
Method
- Mix all the dry ingredients with a cup of water. The dough should be soft enough to pass through the murukku maker. Make sure to add ghee as it gives a smooth texture to the murukku.
- After mixing the dough, take a portion of the dough and put it into the murukku maker and deep until its light brown.
- Store in an airtight container. Although it will be good for atleast two weeks but in my home..its finished within no time!!! Its a perfect snack for an afternoon cuppa of tea! enjoy!

Murukulu is one of my favourite tea time snack. Its easy to make and the crunchy texture makes it even better. Generally fried urad dal is used to make murukulu but I used gram flour or besan and rice flour. here is the recipe
Ingredients
1 cup rice flour
1/4th cup gram flour
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp red chilli powder
2 tbs sesame seeds
1 tsp jeera or fennel seeds
3 tbs ghee
water for mixing the dough
Murukku maker
Oil for deep frying
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and make sure that the dough is soft enough to pass through the small holes of the murukku maker. Heat oil in a deep pan. Put sufficient amount of dough in the murukku maker and make concentric circles on a foil sheet. let it dry for few minutes and then carefully lift each one and deep fry in hot oil. Fry till it is golden brown in color and carefully put them on a paper towel so that oil is soaked. thats it..enjoy this tasty snack along with a hot cuppa of chai!!!!
best part is its one of the best teething snack for kids!!! try it out for sure and let me know!

Sankrathi Shubakankshalu
Today is special day for all south indians as its sankranthi or pongal festival. Its actually called makara sankranthi..on this day, sun enters makara i.e. capricorn sign – 10th sign of the zodiac. This is the day when ladies of the house makes lot of tasty dishes! One of them is minapa garelu. Here is the recipe…
Ingredients
1 cup Urad dal
2 Green chillies
1 big Onioin finely chopped
1 tbsp small pieces of ginger
Salt – According to taste
Jeera
Oil

Method
- Soak Urad dal in water for about four hours.
- Drain the water completely and grind the dal adding some salt (Dont use water while grinding).
- Add finely chopped onions, green chillies, ginger pieces and jeera to the dough. You can add a little chilli powder too. Then make the dough into the the shape of vada. You can do this on a ziplock bag easily.
- Deep fry till golden brown. Serve hot with coconut chutney.

I finally made cheese straws at home..i used to dream abt making these…:) it reminds me of my good old campus life..and RAINBOW!! I miss delhi…. :)

Ingredients
Pastry sheets
1 cup shredded cheese (parmesan,cheddar or pepperjack)
Salt to taste
1 tsp pepper
1 Egg yolk mixed with 1/2 tsp water and whisk it well.
Method
-
Take out the pastry sheets from the packet and cut the sheets into three rectangular sheets.
-
Take one of the sheet and apply one coat of egg yolk. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Sprinkle cheese evenly.
-
Cut small perpendicular pieces..and twist like a roll and place them on a parchment paper lined tray
-
Bake at 350F for 15 min..Take them out and cool it on a rack.

Savor the straws with hot hot ginger flavored tea

My attempt at making andhra style pretzels
i had fun making them…
Ingredients
3/4 cup rice flour
1/4 cup maida
1 tsp aijwain or vamu
2 tsp sesame seeds or nuvvulu
Salt to taste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 cup water
1 cup oil for deep frying
Method
-
Boil 1 cup of water in a pan and add salt to it. Mix it well.

Sieve the flours and add aijwain, sesame seeds, red chilli powder.
-
After the water has boiled, take it off the stove and mix the flour slowly into the water. It will quickly change into solid form.

Cover it with a lid and let it cool off.

After it has cooled, grease your palms with ghee or oil and knead the dough. Take one small round ball and make circular shapes. I tried making pretzel shapes

you can try any shape.

Deep fry and place them on an absorbent paper so that excess oil is soaked.
Enjoy it with hot tea! Its a perfect afternoon snack!
